Who is Legacy Doberman Rescue?
LDR is four women spread out across three states and a small but mighty band of foster homes. We are not powerball millionaires.
In our first six months we took in 24 dogs, including two litters of abandoned puppies. We have rehabilitated and placed 20 Dobermans so far! (We also had a board member finish her Dobermans Championsip, another put 23 titles on her two Dobermans and we had two human grand babies).
We all work full time. Our rescue work is unpaid and expenses consistently exceed
our adoption fee. We rely on foster homes and your donations to make this rescue succeed and save homeless Dobermans.
We are asked almost every day to take on a new Doberman. We encourage you to foster a dog,
make a monthly donation to LDR and participate in our ebay auctions. Every little bit makes a huge difference to the Dobermans who get to live fulfilling and rewarding lives with their new families.

“Legacy Doberman Rescue is the brainchild of Kim Capella, former founder of Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue, former DPCA rescue chair, and Doberman Pinscher whisperer. She asked some long-time partners in crime, Teresa Cook, Amy Daigle, and Valerie Crowell to join in this endeavor. They lost their collective minds and said “YES!” and Legacy was born.
In 2004 when the DPCA sent a team to New Orleans to work with HSUS and the Louisiana SPCA, it was Kim and Valerie who broke down doors and snuck around the closed city to check on the homes of DPCA members and search for missing animals. They camped in Amy’s living room. Teresa is grateful to have missed that adventure.
Mister was the first LDR dog, having been found dumped emaciated and heartworm-positive on a feeder road in Houston. After some groceries and temperament testing, Kim saw some unusual reactions from Mister. She suspected he’d been trained for protection and was therefore not suitable to be adopted by the public. As fate would have it, Mister hit the dog lottery and Kim found a working home for him and he’s living his best life.
In January, the I Need A Drink litter came to Legacy. Mom weighed 44 pounds, and her 9 little puppies were in terrible shape, the smallest weighing just 2.5 pounds at 8 weeks of age. With the love of one of Legacy’s foster homes Tequila, Pappy Van Winkle, Jose Cuervo, Jameson, Cristal, Brandy, Fireball, Moonshine, and Merlot flourished and are now in or headed to their forever homes.”
The support of the Doberman community is critical in saving and rehoming all these little angels who have sadly been abandoned, dumped, and discarded.
